Godzilla (1954)
Godzilla’s first film was released on October 27, 1954 in Nagoya City, Japan. The budget of the film was $1.75 lakhs and it grossed $2.25 million at the box office. The film was directed by Ishirō Honda and the story was written by Shigeru Kayama.
In this film, Godzilla was represented through a suit. Godzilla’s suit was created by Kanju Yagi, Yasui Yagi and Eizo Kaimai. He used Bamboo Sticks and Wire to make its frame. On top of this he applied Metal Mesh and Cushioning. Later, coats of Latex and Molten Rubber were also applied on it. Godzilla’s first suit weighed approximately 100 kilograms. A small, handheld puppet was also created for close-ups during shooting. It was entirely mechanical and released streams of mist from the mouth in the form of Godzilla’s atomic breath.
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
Mothra vs. Godzilla was released in Japan on April 29, 1964. This film was also directed by Ishirō Honda. The film had a budget of ¥123 million and grossed ¥3.2 billion at the box office.
In this film, Godzilla was shown through mechanical props and puppets. However, this time Godzilla’s suit was made much lighter than before and its movements were also improved. The heels of the suit were also improved so that balance would not be lost during rolls and flips.
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)

In this suit, Godzilla’s head was made slightly smaller and the white color from the eyes was removed. Along with this, the movement of the tongue as well as the movement of the eyes were also improved in this suit.
